What is ALS? – Meet someone who knows first-hand. -- Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guest: Madeline Kennedy, experiencing ALS first-hand. Since 1988, St. Peter's ALS Regional Center has been providing people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, and their families with a comprehensive, specialized blend of services and resources.
 
A complete range of specialists provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient visits at our convenient, handicapped-accessible center in Albany. The Center provides both medical and emotional support to help maintain quality of life throughout the course of this disease; serving as a model of compassion and care for similar programs nationally. About the Luncheon and Fashion Show: This is the second annual luncheon and fashion show to benefit the St Peters ALS Regional Center. Benita Zahn will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Madeline Kennedy will be guest speaker. There will be a cash bar, a three course luncheon, fashion show, door prizes and raffle items. CAbi Fashions and Silpada Jewelry will be featured. We will also have the 13th Annual Walk to Strike Out ALS on Saturday, October 25, 2014. It will be held at the Saratoga State Park, Orenda Pavilion. Registration is at 10am; walk starts at 11am, rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit the St Peters ALS Regional Center. Other Desert Cities – A Searing Comedy-Drama with banter that dazzles! -- Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guests: Kevin McGuire "Lyman Wyeth", Ellen Parker "Polly Wyeth" and Maggie Mancinelli Cahill (Artistic Director). Broadway veteran Kevin McGuire and Emmy Award-winner Ellen Parker will lead the cast as Lyman and Polly Wyeth. Kevin McGuire has been a recent staple at theREP, with leading roles in Man of La Mancha, Red and A Christmas Carol. McGuire has starred on Broadway and in national and international tours of Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, The Secret Garden and Jane Eyre. Ellen Parker, who starred for eight years, and won a 1993 Emmy Award, as Maureen Reardon Bauer on the daytime television staple Guiding Light, makes her Capital Repertory Theatre debut with Other Desert Cities. Other Desert Cities, a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is an intriguing play about family, politics and the past. After six years away, prodigal daughter Brooke Wyeth returns to her Palm Springs Desert home to celebrate the holidays and announce plans to publish her childhood memoir – complete with revelations of deep family secrets. Retired ambassador dad, savvy mom, rehabbing aunt and ne'er-do-well brother team up to stop her and the joys of the family reunion quickly unravel in a surprising twist. Enabling Individuals of all ages to maintain independence! -- Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guests: Kathy Burbank (Executive Secretary) and Marlene Hildenbrandt (Program director). Their purpose is to enable individuals of all ages to maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life within their homes and communities. Whenever possible, they offer non-medical assistance to local residents so that they can avoid hospitalization or institutionalization. They also help family members and friends cope with the challenges of long-term caregiving. On Friday, September 26, goodwill projects in Guilderland, Bethlehem and Altamont will take place as part of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day," an initiative by Community Caregivers. Various group and individual projects will begin at 9:00 a.m. and take place throughout the entire day in scheduled locations. All volunteers will receive a "Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day" t-shirt, as well as being invited to an appreciation reception held at the Crossgates Mall food court. Their annual gala is on Nov. 15. Reading IS Fun Program – See how you can help! -- Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guest: Al Magid PhD, Founder and Executive Director. This program needs your help as part of its mass campaign to inform the public about five community meetings that will be held in different locations around the city of Schenectady in the period of Sept 15 through Oct 1. The meetings will showcase the all-volunteer, free of charge program, whose aim is to teach four-year olds reading readiness and conversational skills in preparation for the youngsters entering kindergarten in the Sch'dy School district.
